Members of the WGHS 1st XI Cricket Team have been very busy over the summer period with several girls being selected into different representative cricket teams.
Olivia Lobb, Paige and Brooke Golightly, Tia Saunders, Maria Wright, Hayley Green, Eva Pearson, Caitlin Phillips and Jade Litchfield were selected into the Northland Secondary Schools team that competed in the Northern Districts Tournament in Rotorua. Unfortunately, the bad weather destroyed the tournament and the team did not go as well as expected.
Olivia Lobb was selected into the Northern Districts U21 that competed in the National U21 Tournament at Lincoln University. The team performed well and placed second to Auckland on a count back of points.
Olivia Lobb was the youngest in the team and was mainly fielder, scoring 15, 1 not out in her batting opportunities. She also made the Northern District Spirit Women’s Team which played Wellington. Olivia made her debut in Wellington but was mainly a fielder and did not get to bat. She was also a guest player for the Waikato Valley Team as Northland had no team in top grade. They played the Bay of Plenty Team. Olivia opened batting (with Nicola Browne of Whiteferns) and scored 37 not out a in winning score of 114-5.
Olivia also represented in the Northern District U18 vs Auckland. She was the opening batsman and achieved the second top score of 21.
Northern District U15 Tournament at Wanganui was attended by Tia Saunders, Paige & Brooke Golightly. The team did not go too well, but there were some good individual performances from Tia and Paige. Tia—(2 wickets and a catch on one of the days and scored 11 with bat on another day).
